Springboro, OH: In-Home Newborn Session

Sleeping babies are my favorite babies! Especially when the dream smiles start, the post-milk giggles, the double hand stretch above the head, and the booty scrunch when getting picked up. It’s so sweet, and all the while they’re just this little potato sack. My family this afternoon had all the nesting done and were ready to show off to their daughter once they brought her home. We moved through three different areas of their home to utilize all of the great afternoon light coming into their home, with a final shoot time of 4 1/2 hours. The time may shock you, but to complete the number of outfit and room changes on top of managing the baby's schedule is expected.

Your baby's nursery, your bedroom, or even your living room are great places to start shooting your little ones. The ideal scenario when shooting inside is to have windows that allow lots of natural light into your home. If you’re unsure about the ability to shoot in your own space, then your first step is having a consultation about what your rooms have to offer and any hurdles that would need to be handled before committing to a shoot in-home.

Client Tips!

There is so much to be said about how to best prepare for newborn photos inside your own home. If I could pick one item to focus on when bringing a photographer into your safe space, that would be to not feel rushed! When we’re outside shooting, we’re on the sun's timetable, and when you rent a studio, you're on a set booking time. But when we’re in your home, we are on the timeline of your baby. There’s a natural feeling to be rushed because when having friends or acquaintances over, you’re in hosting mode. When you have a fresh baby, there will be lots of outfit changes, either on purpose or by accident. Many opportunities for feeding, diaper changes, napping, and awake periods. So take a breath and know that the best baby photos come in the quiet, calm moments that can’t be hurried.
